Frequently Asked Questions

The timeline for my playlist shows the time for all movies instead of each single clip in QuickTime Player 7 but displays the correct way in the QuickTime 7 Plug-in. What's going on?

This is a known bug with QuickTime 7. We are working with Apple to remedy the problem. If you have an Apple Developer Connection account, you can submit a bug fix request through their Bugreporter site. Please refer to bug # 4124717. The more bug reports on a particular problem, the higher the priority a bug fix gets.

My playlist embedded in a playlist is not showing the navigation menu. Help!

QuickTime will hide the navigation menu is the movie is not wide enough. We've found that movies need to be at least 220 pixels wide for a 15 character menu item. Smaller menus would allow you to have smaller movies. Audio only files should not have this problem.

What kind of file types does QT Playlist Maker support?

QT Playlist Maker supports files with the following extensions:

  • .3gp
  • .aif
  • .aiff
  • .avi*
  • .dv
  • .m4a
  • .mov
  • .mp3
  • .mp4
  • .wav

* some .avi files are not compatible with QuickTime depending on what codec is used.

On Windows I'm getting a drop-down navigation menu that doesn't have any text. What's going on?

Chances are, that computer is running version 6.4 of QuickTime. Where was a bug in that version that wouldn't show the text. Please update your QuickTime to version 6.5 or higher (free upgrade).

When I try to make a playlist with MPEG-1 video clips strange things happen, what am I doing wrong?

Well, nothing. There is a bug in QuickTime playing back MPEG-1 content in a playlist. If you'd like to see a faster resolution to this problem, please send your feedback to the QuickTime feedback web site. Please refer them to bug #3065228.

I tried to save my playlist on a different hard drive and it didn't work. What's up?

QTPM does not incorporate the media files into the playlist itself, rather it points, or references the media files. Saving a playlist on a hard drive that points to media files on another hard drive is currently not supported.

How do I use QT Playlist Maker?

We've created the following tutorials to help you use QT Playlist Maker.

Will QT Playlist Maker work in Classic?

QTPM has not been tested in the Classic MacOS. While it might work in MacOS 9, it is currently unsupported.
